Megazyme is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland where our research and manufacturing facility is located.

Due to continued strong growth in our US markets we are now inviting applications for the position of Scientific Business Development Representative based in Chicago.

Our Scientific Business Development Representative (SBDR) will develop and maintain effective customer relations, liaise with the Technical Support and Sales & Marketing teams to support customers through provision of information specific to their industry, including technical information, product recommendations for customer applications and coordinating technical workshops and product demonstrations. They will provide Technical Support to established and new customers, resolve customer complaints by investigating problems, develop solutions, prepare reports and make recommendations to management.

The SBDR will develop a high level of product knowledge and research markets particularly the food and beverage industries, in which we operate. They will research competitor and industry activity and keep informed of new products/services and other general information of interest to customers.

The SBDR will be responsible for direct selling of analytical reagents, enzymes and assay kits to major customers engaged in bioanalysis and R&D in the food, feeds, dairy, wine and related industries. They will develop and execute sales strategies and plans to expand the business within the assigned territory, positively influencing decision makers in key customer companies and proactively maintaining a pipeline of opportunities to meet or exceed sales objectives. The SBDR will prospect new market opportunities to establish and cultivate a new customer base through sales calls with potential and existing customers and attend conferences and trade shows as required.

The SBDR will establish and grow relationships in the company, actively communicating with the Technical Support and Sales & Marketing teams, keeping to agreed targets, service level agreements and key performance indicators and submitting reports to an agreed time frame.

Candidates must have the following minimum qualifications, skills and experience:

ESSENTIAL

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a Life Science
  • Strong technical and lab experience in enzyme assays
  • Excellent knowledge in Biochemistry
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and presentation skills
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office and the internet
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Must be willing to travel
  • Must be eligible to work in the US
  • Self-starting with a positive attitude
  • Highly motivated with the drive and work ethic to meet targets
  • The drive and ability to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team

PREFFERED

  • Sales experience in B2B an advantage
  • Strong preference to move into a commercial or sales environment

The successful candidate will report to the Technical Director. Full training will be provided. It is envisaged that the 1st month of training will be based in Megazyme Dublin, Ireland followed by on the ground training in the US, supported by a lead scientist.

Typically the role will involve extensive travel to customer locations, working from home and time spent in the Megazyme Chicago office.
