ICC Headquarters in Vienna Was Awarded the EMAS Certificate
On June 14, 2005, the ICC Headquarters in Vienna, Marxergasse 2, A-1030 Vienna, Austria, was awarded the EMAS Certificate by Dr. Josef Pröll, Austrian Federal Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Environment and Water Management. The EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) is a management tool for companies and other organisations to evaluate, report and improve their environmental performance by the integration of ISO 14001 and by considering more strongly indirect effects such as those related to financial services or administrative and planning decisions.

Invitation to Participate in the New ICC Task Force Groups
ICC National Delegates are invited to nominate experts from their country to take part in these two task force groups before June 30, 2005. In addition, ICC Corporate Members are invited to join the task force groups and to express their interest by email.

  1. Task Force on Sampling: the existing ICC standards need to be revised and adapted to current needs (e.g. for mycotoxin analysis).
  2. Task Force on Mycotoxins: mycotoxin analysis has been revolutionised by rapid and high throughput methods. Reference materials and standardised methods are urgently needed.

The ICC Task Forces will be formally established during the ICC Jubilee Conference in Vienna, Austria, July 3-6, 2005.

INCO Project Proposal Update
ICC plans to submit a proposal for an INCO (specific measures in support of international co-operation) research project in the area of food security. The proposed topic (updated June 2005): HACCP Based Quality Control and Management in the Total Food Chain of Grain - From Farm to Fork. The main consortium will be established during the ICC Jubilee Conference in Vienna, July 3-6, 2005. Please, express your interest for participation in the project by email before June 30, 2005.

Additional information according to the draft call of the European Commission:
Quality and safety control strategies for food (Network of Excellence)
The objective of the project is to develop common strategies for harmonisation and validating detection methods and technologies while providing an economic analysis of their application into new HACCP systems at critical stages of the food production and supply chains. These strategies should also provide the operational designs of user-friendly databases for various hazards in food based on standardised data. Novel operational approaches for the production of ready-to-use guidelines on risk assessment and tools for stimulating e-learning should also be conceived. The involvement of retailers and of SMEs specifically engaged in high technology is essential. The participation of partners from INCO target countries and third countries is strongly recommended.
