The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world. ICRISAT is headquartered in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, with two regional hubs and four country offices in sub-Saharan Africa.

ICRISAT works to improve the farming systems of the semi-arid tropical (SAT) areas of the developing world through integrated genetic and natural resource management strategies, including conservation of genetic resources and improvement of five crops that are particularly important in the diets of the poor: sorghum, pearl millet, groundnut, chickpea, and pigeon pea. ICRISAT also nurtures agri-business through its Agribusiness and Innovation Platform (AIP) @ ICRISAT, in order to ensure that technologies reach the poor farmers for adoption. The AIP focuses on creation and commercialization of improved agricultural inputs (e.g. seed and other technologies) and tools (e.g. food safety test kits), developed through bioitech (R&D, as well as value additio to dry land agricultural commodities through processing and improved storage.
